Located only 1hr 30 min's from Geneva International Airport, in the Haute Savoie Region of the French Alps, Chatel is a bustling and vibrant market town retaining all the Charm of a traditional French Alpine Village. Part of the Portes du Soleil ski domain, the largest linked ski area in the world, Chatel's modern ski lifts give immediate access to over 650km of linked pistes across two countries. Being the most central village in the Portes du Soleil means it's easy to ski to places such as Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets, or across the border into Switzerland.
New For 2009/10
The 2009/10 season sees one of the last old style chair lifts, La Linga 2, replaced with a brand new high speed 6 person lift. Work is well under way and the lift will be ready in time for the start of the new season.
Chatel is continuing to invest in it's ski area, and currently 7 million euros has been invested in snow making equipment, giving almost complete snow cannon coverage! Of course this is just a very nice back up, as Chatel boasts one of the best snow records in the Alps, and the last two years have seen some of the best conditions in over 30 years!
The Skiing
Chatel is at the very heart of the largest linked ski area in the world, The Portes du Soleil. Words cannot describe this ski domain! There are over 650km of completely linked pistes across two countries, you can ski all week, without going over the same run twice, and without taking your skis off!
For the more adventurous there are famous black runs such as the Coupe de Monde, or the Swiss Wall, and the off-piste is without doubt some of the best in the Alps.
Just minutes from the chalet, the ski runs of Super Chatel will have you coasting across the Swiss border (don't forget your passport!) Or perhaps you'd prefer the famous 'Portes Du Soleil circuit' taking a tour through the many villages of the Portes du Soleil, 7 hours of skiing without using the same piste twice, !

What a wonderful place. Unspoiled but with all the facilities you could want. Superb snow due to location (don't let the height fool you) friendly, traditional village and fantastic restaurants. Best kept ski resort secret - 650 km of linked runs for all abilities.
You can keep Val d'Isere and all the upmarket, expensive resorts - this is what is all about. Loved it so much, we bought a chalet.
