The Area

The Portes du Soleil is THE Mountain bike riders playground. The area is made up of several villages in France and Switzerland all linked by a massive network of ski lifts that are adapted in summer to carry Mountain bikes.

Châtel is the most central village in the Portes du Soleil and has some of the best and most challenging downhill runs in the area.  Whether downhill, XC, enduro, or just getting out and about on your bike is what you're after, there really is no better place to come.

During summer all thoughts in Chatel turn to mountain biking.  The village converts its ski lifts, and buses to carry mountain bikes, and teams of specially trained staff are employed to maintain the miles of well kept tracks and trails.  The staff patrol the area on bikes and are on hand to help and advise riders.

Châtel is fast becoming known for its large number of well kept downhill tracks, and the fact that it is one of the most challenging areas in the Portes du Soleil! The downhill world cup is regularly held here.

The vast downhill area at Pre La Joux is accessed via the high speed chairlift, specially adapted to carry Mountain Bikes, meaning you need never turn your pedals!

At the top of the lifts you can venture further, dropping down into Linderettes and taking on the downhill in Avoriaz, again without having to pedal once!

However if a bit of pedaling is your thing then you can take on some of the many fantastic and scenic XC routes from Châtel, across the boarder into Switzerland, or over to Morzine, Avoriaz, or Les Gets.  Cruise along the mountain ridges, up and down superb dreamy single track.  The possibilities really are endless.

Your friendly and experienced hosts will be on hand throughout your stay to offer advice and share their local knowledge with you on this fantastic area.
